Less Trouble Calls But Still Unwanted by City of South Lake Tahoe
(SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA) Oct 29, 2022 — From Aug. 12-16, 2020, more than 500 calls were attended by law enforcement in South Lake Tahoe/Stateline areas.
More than 200 of those calls were handled by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office alone, and more than 10% of those calls were related to the chaos the car enthusiasts stirred at an event called Lake2o.
While the event this year did not generate near the calls to law enforcement, officials remain against the gathering. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department said the Lake2o event consisted of approximately 500 vehicles that flooded into the Tahoe Basin and spanned from Wednesday, Oct. 19, through Sunday, Oct. 23.
The department said that during the weekend there were 11 calls for service generated consisting of traffic enforcement stops and disturbance related incidents which resulted in 15 citations for equipment violations. It added that the magnitude of the event, “is not compatible with the environment and quality of life for our community.”
Police Chief David Stevenson told the Tribune that while there was a drastic decrease in calls for service during the event this year it’s still not a good fit for our community. Stevenson attributed the lower amount of disturbances to the coordination between law enforcement agencies and communication with the event organizers.
The department thanked the collaborative effort from multiple law enforcement agencies “who assisted in maintaining the safety for our community.”
