Increased Temperatures Mean Increased Fire Danger

NWS Sacramento

(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Aug 31, 2022 — Dangerously hot temperatures and increased fire weather concerns will impact interior northern California this Labor Day Weekend.

Plan ahead now to practice BOTH heat and fire safety, especially if you plan to spend time outside.

The five critical weather elements that produce extreme fire behavior are:

  • High Temperatures
  • low relative humidity;
  • strong surface wind;
  • unstable air;
  • drought.

How do you prepare for fire weather?

Create a fire-resistant zone that is free of leaves, debris or flammable materials for at least 30 feet from your home.
Designate a room that can be closed off from outside air.
Close all doors and windows.
Set up a portable air cleaner to keep indoor pollution levels low when smoky conditions exist.
