Critical Water Supply Infrastructure Rebuilt after Caldor Fire Damage – VIDEO

(El Dorado Irrigation District)

PLACERVILLE, Calif. May 27, 2022 — Here’s a powerful short video showing before and after drone footage of the emergency reconstruction project on the four flumes that were destroyed in the Caldor Fire. This amounts to more than 45,000 work hours (on Flumes 4, 5, and 6) spread over 194 working days to be ready to flow water. For Flume 30, it was nearly 38,000 work hours spread over 170 working days. Earlier this month, the water started flowing again. We are so thankful to hardworking crews who undertook this herculean task (and it’s under budget!).

The El Dorado Canal system is the primary means of water supply for a significant portion of EID’s service area, from Pollock Pines all the way to Cameron Park and El Dorado Hills. The El Dorado Canal also supplies water to the District’s 21 megawatt El Dorado Powerhouse, contributing renewable energy to the State’s energy grid and a source of non-rate revenue for the District.
