PLACERVILLE, Calif. (May 13, 2022) — It is critical for schools to provide spaces dedicated to student wellbeing and mindfulness, as well as dedicated times during the day for students to utilize them. Pioneer Union School District understands the need for wellness spaces at all of its campuses of Pioneer Elementary, Walt Tyler Elementary, and Mountain Creek Middle School.

PUSD School Counselor Carlyn Spencer wanted to make a positive impact for her district. As a result of her efforts, PUSD was recently awarded a $10,000 Acorn grant from Women’s Fund El Dorado to pursue wellness and mindfulness programs for students. Carlyn Spencer shares her thoughts about what the Women’s Fund El Dorado grant will do for PUSD, “This grant will help to create both private and communal spaces at all campuses to promote mindfulness, have safe places for self-regulation, and provide social and emotional support.”

Women’s Fund El Dorado is a grant making agency that focuses on promoting unity within communities, empowering women to embrace philanthropy, and making a significant impact in the community. PUSD is immensely thankful for the opportunity to continue to make a difference for the students and families in South County, and hopes to form even more partnerships in the future in El Dorado County.
