(El Dorado County Office of Education)
PLACERVILLE, Calif. — The El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) is pleased to announce that Dr. Carolyn Parker has accepted the position of Director of Teacher Residency, a newly created role made possible through a partnership with Alder Graduate School of Education. After accepting the position, Dr. Parker shared, “It is a privilege to join the EDCOE team. I am looking forward to working collaboratively with district leaders to create a unique path that prepares, supports, and invests in the recruitment of excellent teachers in El Dorado County.”
Dr. Parker first served as a classroom teacher for over a decade, in several different grade levels. Her career progressed into administration where she served as an Assistant Principal, Principal, Curriculum and Human Resources and Curriculum and Instruction Director. Her passion is providing professional development and preparation that creates more capable and confident educators. She possesses the skills and dedication needed to lead an innovative model of educator preparation that will attract diverse and talented candidates, and provides them valuable teaching skills and classroom experiences.
Dr. Ed Manansala, El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools, noted, “EDCOE leaders have recognized the growing teacher shortage and developed the partnership with Alder to assist in expanding resources to successfully target this crucial need. The program will enable us to establish a teacher pipeline to recruit and retain additional teachers. Dr. Parker is extremely accomplished and well-suited to build this program from the ground up.” Under Dr. Parker’s leadership, this program will recruit and educate local teacher candidates in a one-year residency program in a local school district or EDCOE classroom. At the completion of the program, residents earn a teaching credential and Master’s degree.
