El Dorado County (Dec 8 2023) – In a promising update for the resilient community of Grizzly Flat, the reconstruction of the Grizzly Flat’s Post Office is well underway and progressing towards its final stages. As of the latest information on December 8, 2023, the construction is slated to be integrated into PG&E’s schedule on December 14. Following the completion of construction, PG&E plans to dispatch a meter technician, typically within a week, to finalize the necessary meter setup.

El Dorado County District 2 Supervisor George Turnboo, expressed his gratitude, extending special thanks to Brandon Sanders of PG&E for the insightful update. Turnboo, committed to overseeing the recovery efforts, recently conducted a tour of Grizzly Flat to assess the ongoing reconstruction work aimed at rebuilding the community.

During his visit, Supervisor Turnboo acknowledged the substantial progress made on the Grizzly Flat’s Post Office, signaling a significant step forward in restoring essential services to the community. Notably, Congressman Tom McClintock and Congressman Kevin Kiley were recognized for their instrumental roles in facilitating the return of the U.S. Postal Service to Grizzly Flat.

Residents, enduring a challenging two-year period following the devastating Caldor Fire, are eagerly anticipating the reopening of their local post office. The Sciaroni Road post office is currently in its final stages of construction, offering a glimmer of hope and normalcy for the community.

While no official opening date has been announced by USPS spokeswoman Meiko Patton, the imminent completion of the post office construction is a positive sign for the residents of Grizzly Flat. Tobe Magidson, a resident whose home fell victim to the fire, emphasized the significance of such milestones, stating,

“Anytime you can get a post office, a school, a church, or any building that was fundamental (to a community), it brings hope back for a community that’s been devastated.”

For Grizzly Flat, the impending reopening of the post office stands not only as a practical step towards recovery but also as a symbolic beacon of hope, fostering optimism for the numerous rebuilding projects that lie ahead. As the community continues to rebuild, each completed structure becomes a testament to the resilience and determination of its residents.
