El Dorado County (June 29, 2024) – Former Sacramento Sheriff John McGinness to Address Taxpayers’ Breakfast
Former Sacramento County sheriff John McGinness is set to speak at the El Dorado County Taxpayers Association’s upcoming breakfast event on July 1. The event will take place at Denny’s in Placerville, where McGinness will delve into the status of the November ballot initiative aimed at rolling back aspects of Proposition 47. This 2014 measure reduced sentences for non-violent crimes, a move that has prompted calls for reform from sheriffs and district attorneys grappling with rising crime rates in many urban centers.
McGinness brings over three decades of experience with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department to his address. His career spanned various roles within the department, including stints as a CSI investigator, homicide detective, and department spokesman. Notably, he commanded the Centralized Investigation Division before his tenure as Sacramento County’s undersheriff, culminating in his election as sheriff in 2006.
The El Dorado County Taxpayers Association (EDCTA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to fiscal responsibility and transparency in El Dorado County, hosts events such as this to advocate for taxpayer rights and informed public policy. Their mission focuses on monitoring government spending, evaluating tax proposals, and educating the community on fiscal matters affecting local governance.
Since retiring from law enforcement, McGinness has transitioned to a role as a talk show radio host on KFBK NewsRadio in Sacramento. His program covers a range of topics, with particular emphasis on law enforcement issues, public safety, and current affairs impacting the Sacramento region and beyond. McGinness’s dual role as a former sheriff and media figure has positioned him as a prominent voice in local discussions concerning public safety and criminal justice reform.
