The History of Shingle Springs – Video

(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Oct 21, 2022 — I assume you know about the California Gold Rush of 1848 and about the towns of Coloma and Placerville, but there is a town in El Dorado County, California not many have heard of. This video discusses the history of Shingle Springs from its start as a stop on the Sacramento to Placerville wagon road, its history as a train depot, and how it has remained a major stop on US 50 from Sacramento to Placerville and further to Lake Tahoe.
One such traveler, David B. Scott, was so impressed with this area that when his party disbanded he returned with a group of men in 1850 and erected a shingle machine near the springs, from whence the town took its name. Operated by horse power, the shingle machine produced sixteen thousand shingles a day, worth between $800 and $900 delivered at Sacramento.
