Leone Meadows Camp Thanks Supervisor George Turnboo

LEONI MEADOWS CAMP, October 19, 2022

(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Oct 26, 2022 — Dear George Turnboo

I’ve started to write this letter many times. It seems that each time I got interrupted and let the matter rest. Well, my guilty conscience got the better of me this morning, so lucky you, here is my thank you.

The Caldor fire, as you recall, roared through Leone Meadows Camp back In August of 2021. With that as the backdrop, I spent the next two months putting out spot fires, repairing wells, capping burned water lines and may other sobs too numerous to count here.

Early on, it became evident that I needed stuff to fight fire and refurbish the infrastructure so could pump water and put out fires. The problem was there was a police line that hampered my efforts. I needed to get diesel, PVC parts, well parts, and a slew of other things to keep the place from burning down That’s when you so very graciously allowed me a permit to come and go for supplies.

George, you, and John are truly brave men I saw the reaction on Facebook to the way the Caldor Fire was handled. I for one. have nothing but praise for the local government response. I might have a little Issue with the way the feds handled it, but El Dorado County government treated us humans. Thank you sirl Because you helped me get a permit to keep the camp running, we did not lose any additional buildings after the Initial wave of fire. We were able to keep generators running and kept more than $20,000 of frozen food from spoiling.

In short. I am sure you took a lot of flak, so please know that I and the staff of Leoni Meadows will be forever grateful. You took a chance on us, and at least from my perspective it was a some run!

George, you restore my faith in government. Once again, thank you for taking time to make a difference In Illy life and the life of the thousands of kids who still have a place to come to camp.
