Fall Colors are Peeking around Lake Tahoe and Hope Valley

(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Oct 21, 2022 — Fall color comes to Lake Tahoe and Eastern Sierra foliage starting toward the end of September and peaking in October, but the exact timing for when the leaves change color varies somewhat from year to year.  Golden aspens earn their name this time of year, when their amber leaves make a striking contrast with the rich green of neighboring pine and fir trees.  For Leaf Peepers and those just seeking some peace of mind, Fall is one of the best times to visit Lake Tahoe. The summer crowds have retreated, towns are quiet, winds are calm, and it’s often warm and sunny to boot.

The trees at higher elevations will turn colors earlier than the ones at lower elevations closer to Lake Tahoe basin.

Keep a close eye on local fall foliage predictors which is updated daily to help you track the exact timing this year. If a cold wave comes through early, leaves will peak and fall before you can drive over to the mountains. But, that’s why it’s called chasing fall colors – you have to work for the big payout!!

Fall colors are peaking around Lake Tahoe and nearby Hope Valley.  Do you have any fall color photos to share?
