Stars at School: Kim Kahn

By El Dorado County Office of Education

(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Oct 21, 2022 — Kim Kahn has been the Family Resource Center/After School Enrichment director for Placerville Union School District for more than six years and she continues her work in education because she loves providing helpful resources to students and families.

“El Dorado County has an abundance of wonderful, helpful and dedicated community-based organizations that have changed families’ lives. I’m grateful to be partnering with many of them, as a connection for students and families needing those vital services to become successful in school and life,” explains Kahn.

Her role as Family Resource Center director includes ensuring that homeless, foster and low-income students receive proper services so there are no barriers to their education. This can include housing, transportation, food, medical services and more — all things that greatly impact a student’s ability to learn. As After School Enrichment director, Kahn’s duties include signing on instructors and giving promotions, registration and making sure everything runs smoothly.

Before her work at Placerville Union, she worked as a daycare teacher, a one-on-one aide and, most recently, the Alternate Learning Center director at Markham Middle School. Throughout her career in education, she’s learned a lot and notes, “Being a good listener is very important because you can find out so much from a child when you spend extra moments with them.”
