(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Sept 16, 2022 — Wildfires continue to increase in frequency and intensity across California, resulting in hundreds of thousands of acres burned and thousands of homes destroyed each year. Once again, El Dorado County is experiencing a major wildfire as the Mosquito Fire burns in the American River Canyon and threatens communities and valuable watershed.

Recognizing the ongoing threat from wildfire, El Dorado County and its partners are engaging in a coordinated community-based wildfire resilience and vegetation management strategy that prioritizes and accelerates fire prevention and hazardous fuels reduction activities, including:

• Roadside fuels reduction treatments on critical ingress and egress routes across El Dorado County, and
• Strategically placed hazardous fuel reduction treatments to lower fire intensity and slow fire spread.

These efforts are being coordinated with local fire districts, fire safe councils, resource conservation districts, CAL FIRE, County Department of Transportation and other partners.

Over the course of the next several months, local fire safe councils will be hosting community meetings and contacting landowners in the proposed project areas to share information and answer questions.
