Free Lecture, “From Ranch to Resort: The History of Sierra-at-Tahoe” 75 Years of History

Cris Alarcon, News@InEDC.com

(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Sept 6, 2022 — Author Christopher C. Couper will share his new book, From Ranch to Resort: The History of Sierra-at-Tahoe, reflecting on 75 years of history at Sierra-at-Tahoe resort and its predecessor namesake, Sierra Ski Ranch.

He will expand on how the area was created, developed, and maintained by the community. From its first days, Sierra Ski Ranch was recognized as a family project by brothers Ray and Floyd Barrett. Built as resort for their family and their friends, word soon got out how friendly the area was. This experience did not stop when the Barrett’s sold Sierra Ski Ranch to the Sprock family. Vern and Bobbie Sprock transformed it into a much larger operation, still infused with a family ambiance. Their children, Kathy and Peter, became a part of the operation.

Today, under the current management of John Rice, even though Sierra-at-Tahoe is owned by a large corporation, in visiting, you would still assume it is a family operated enterprise.

Through a PowerPoint presentation, Chris will bring together the last 75 years of this collaborative, family-oriented, and environmentally focused effort that continues to be the beloved resort it is today.
