(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Aug 27, 2022 — Video Transcript – Video Below.

Solving the housing crisis that has resulted from the caldor fire is not an easy task.

But the best solution is being debated among people who love grizzly flats.

I am beyond how much you have to pay out to be able to live on your own property.

Jay carlon took his life savings and paid cash to purchase property in grizzly flats to build a life on what he describes as his own little piece of america.

It’d be less than a year before the caldor fire I pay taxes, pay the water, trash, I am not just looking for a handout.

I got back up here as soon as I could so I would not be a burden.

He’s hopeful the county will purchase tiny homes to be put on residents’ properties as he and his neighbors work towards more permanent solutions.

We’re trying to get back our lives.

They brought of a proposal to get these tiny homes.

Scot telfor is part of the long-term recovery group, formed following the fire.

They’re working with the el dorado county board of supervisors saying tiny homes are an option, but not the only solution.

It’s a solution for some but I don’t think it’s the end all for everyone.

But for this group they believe right now there are too many obstacles.

And too much discussion about solutions what they need is action.

And a place to live.

We’re trying to get them to purchase them for us.

Maybe not for the rest of our lives but until we rebuild.

Carlon says he’s outfitted a shed to meet some of his needs it’s not up to code, so he’s technically living in the tent.

It is challenging to live here when everything is ok and that is our choice.

We know what we have to do but to add to it all the frustrations we have gone through, I am just trying to survive of here.
