(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Aug 24, 2022 — Yesterday Aug 23, search crews located human remains within the search area of Ice House Road.

Coroner’s detectives were able to positively identify the deceased person as Perry Justus.

Next of kin notifications have been completed.

This investigation will continue with the Coroners unit and no further information is available.

The search for Perry Justus is continuing today utilizing the EDSO Drone Team. To date, we have utilized the following resources and staff in our search efforts.

EDSO- 44 sheriff’s deputies, 350.5 hours.
CHP Helicopter- 2 Officers, 1 hour.
CA Rescue Dog Association- 7 Handlers/flankers, 5 dogs, 62 hours.
EDSO Search and Rescue- 34 members, 1 dog, 338.5 hours.
United States Forrest Service- 6 members, 30 hours.
Calaveras County Search and Rescue- 2 members, 14 hours.
Yolo County Search and Rescue- 2 members, 14 hours.
Amador County Search and Rescue- 2 members, 16 hours.
Chaplains- 2, 35 hours.
United States Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.

Today the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office continued the search for Perry Justus using both air and a variety of ground resources. Perry has still not been located.

Perry was last seen Saturday 8/13/22 at 2:30 PM walking along the Bassi Falls Trail in the Crystal Basin area. Please see and share the flier and contact our dispatch if you have any information that will assist the search.
