(South Lake Tahoe, CALIFORNIA) Aug 7, 2022 — A South Lake Tahoe man accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend is scheduled to appear in Tahoe Township Justice Court on Tuesday.

Nicholas Rene Arthur, 27, was arrested on July 29 after a witness intervened in a struggle at Spooner Junction.

According to the Douglas County Sheriffs Report, the witness said she was on Highway 28 when a white Jeep came up behind her driving “crazy.”

She said she pulled over and let the Jeep pass but ended up directly behind it at the intersection with Highway 50.

The witness told deputies she saw a woman sick her arm out of the Jeep’s back passenger window and open the door from the outside and run away.

Arthur then turned around and parked off the right-hand turn lane and caught up to the woman and dragged her back to the vehicle in a headlock, according to the witness.

The woman parked her car and ran toward the pair yelling at Arthur to leave the woman alone as two other Samaritans pulled over and helped.

All three of them grabbed the woman away from Arthur, who then drove away.

The victim told deputies that Arthur and she had dated and that he told her he had a check to pay a debt and that they could go to the bank and cash it.

Once in the Jeep, he drove toward Carson City and started threatening to injure her.

Arthur was spotted driving the Jeep south on Highway 50 toward Stateline near Logan Creek Drive and attempted a traffic stop near Cave Rock when the Jeep accelerated and then made a sharp turn onto Friedhoff Drive and bailed out.

He was found coming out of the bushes and struggled with deputies as they took him into custody.

Arthur is being held on charges of kidnapping, felony domestic battery and eluding.

His bail is set at nearly $175,000, according to Douglas County jail records.
