After Being Stuck by Car, 13-year-old Sophia Torres of El Dorado Hills has Died

(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Aug 2, 2022 — 13-year-old Sophia Torres, a rising freshman at Oak Ridge died after a fatal car accident. The collision occurred on Serrano Parkway.

Sophia recently returned from a soccer tournament in Virginia, where she finished fifth in the country. On July 12th, she went for a run in the afternoon when she was hit by a car driving down Serrano Parkway. According to reports, no one was at fault at the time of the accident.

“We are extremely saddened to learn of the passing of Sophia Torres, we would like to extend our condolences to the Torres family. We also want to let her family, @sanjuan_sc, and the entire soccer community know that she and they are in our thoughts during this difficult time. RIP #19,” according to a Sacramento United statement on Facebook.

How did Sophia Torres die?

Sophia was taken by ambulance to UCD in Sacramento, where CPR was performed. They finished the imaging quickly and discovered a subarachnoid hemorrhage. She had to be sedated and intubated. A shunt was implanted, as well as other measures to reduce intracranial pressure (ICP). She undenvent two operations: abdominal exploratory surgery and brain surgery. Sophia Torres of El Dorado Hills, California died from injuries sustained in the accident.

SOPHIA TORRES OBITUARY

August 11, 2008 – August 1, 2022

El Dorado Hills, California – Sophia Ann Torres was born August 11th, 2008, to her devoted parents, Melanie and Omir Torres. She lived a joyful life surrounded by her big sister, Samantha Torres, grandparents, Patti and Bob Stutte and Evangelina and David Navarro, aunts, uncles, and cousins who adored her. She had a beat to her own drum approach to life and loved her family dearly. She was a fierce competitor with a vast community of friends and support. Sophia fought so hard, but ultimately was meant to go home to be with Jesus. She passed peacefully just after midnight on August 1st, where she was surrounded by love, music, singing in her ear, and tickles on her arms. Sophia was a larger-than-life person and because of her, we will love harder and look for joy and miracles all around us. She will still fill the room with her energy and enthusiasm, and we will honor her all the days of our lives. Thank you to all of you, this community has given us hope and strength.

Melanie and Omir welcome the community of family and friends to celebrate Sophia’s life on either Friday, August 5th at Holy Trinity Church at 3 pm or Saturday August 6th at District Church at 1 pm in El Dorado Hills. Friday will include mass and a light reception to follow with a livestream option for those that cannot attend. Saturday at District Church will be a Celebration of Life followed by a reception and an opportunity to be together as a community to honor Sophia.

  1. Struck by a car in daylight on Serrano Pkwy and no one at fault?? Umm, how fast was the driver going? How was he/she unable to avoid striking the 13 year old girl?
    Chris, you need to ask some questions here as a journalist.

    1. I agree. Why keep the details of this tragic accident a secret? No fault? So was it an act of God?

    I wish the family peace and comfort and a hope they will find joy in the memories they have of her.
