(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) June 25, 2022 — Hundreds of demonstrators against Friday’s Supreme Court ruling that overturns Roe vs. Wade took to the streets of California’s capital city.

People chanting, carrying signs, and standing in the street blocked evening commuters at one point, as they marched across downtown Sacramento.

Many demonstrators came to the capital city from across California.

“I would like to have seen a larger crowd, but it’s amazing how many did come out… especially how many young people came out,” said demonstrator Dawn Wolfson. “This is gonna be a long fight and I may not be here when it’s over. We need them.”

Wolfson shared her reason for heading to Sacramento from El Dorado County.

“I want to get it fixed and if that means coming to the streets, here I am,” she said.

OV WADE AND ENDING A WOMAN’S CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO AN ABORTION HERE IS A LIVE LOOK AT THE STATE CAPITOL TONIGHT AND YOU CAN SEE IT HAS BEEN LIT UP IN PINK. THIS IS IN SUPPORT OF ABORTION RIGHTS TODAY GOVERNOR GAVIN NEWSOM SIGNED A BILL THAT HE SAID QUOTE MAKES OUR STATE A SAFE HAVEN FOR WOMEN ACROSS THE NATION AND THE CAPITAL’S BEEN A FOCUS FOR DEMONSTRATORS ALONG WITH THE FEDERAL COURTHOUSE. NO ONE POINT THINGS GOT VERY HEATED WHEN PROTESTERS BLOCKED I STREET PREVENTING DRIVERS FROM GETTING ON I-5 SO KCRA3 WAS THERE ARE LIVE CREW WHEN FRUSTRATED DRIVER HERE SPUN HIS TIRES AT ONE POINT. DID THAT MORE THAN ONCE THEN DROVE RIGHT UP TO THE GROUP BLOCKING THE ON-RAMP NOW THE VIEW WAS BLOCKED HERE, BUT YOU CAN SEE THE DRIVER GETS OUT OF HIS TRUCK CONFRONTS THE GROUP AND FINALLY HE GETS BACK INSIDE THE TRUCK AND DRIVES OFF. THAT GROUP MARCH THROUGH PARTS OF DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO EVENTUALLY MERGING WITH ANOTHER GROUP OF DEMONSTRATORS AT THE STATE CAPITOL LIVE COPTER 3 WAS OVERHEAD. IS THAT GROUP CHANT? AND HELD SIGNS ASIDE FROM BLOCKING SOME DOWNTOWN STREETS THE DEMONSTRATION APPEARED PEACEFUL, AND THERE ARE NO REPORTS OF ANY ARRESTS NOW 20 MINUTES AFTER THIS THE DEMONSTRATORS LEFT THE CAPITOL AND AGAIN TOOK TO THE STREETS YOU SEE THEM HERE AT ONE POINT MARCHING AGAINST TRAFFIC FORCING CARS TO STOP AND WAIT FOR THEM TO PASS THE GROUP THEN ENDED A FEW BLOCKS AWAY AT DAYS OR CHAVEZ PLAZA AND THEN AGAIN MARCHED IN THE STREETS AND YOU CAN SEE FROM LIVE COPPER 3 THE GROUP SURROUNDING THE ENTIRE PLAZA AT ONE POINT. WE HAVE TEAM COVERAGE OF TODAY’S RULING IN THE IMPACT IT WILL HAVE IN CALIFORNIA. WE BEGIN WITH KCRA3’S MELANIE WINGO WHO’S BEEN COVERING TODAY’S DEMONSTRATIONS, MELANIE. IT IS QUIET AT THE CAPITOL TONIGHT, BUT EARLIER THIS EVENING A GROUP OF ABOUT 250 DEMONSTRATORS WAS RIGHT OUT WHERE WE ARE THIS EVENING GATHERED CARRYING SIGNS CHANTING AND EXPRESSING THEIR FRUSTRATIONS ABOUT THE SUPREME COURT’S MOST RECENT RULING. DEMONSTRATIONS AGAINST THE SUPREME COURT RULING OVERTURNING ROE VERSUS WADE TAKEN TO DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO. A GATHERING THAT STARTED ON THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF THE FEDERAL COURTHOUSE SPILLING OUT INTO THE INTERSECTION AT 5TH AND I STREETS BLOCKING EVENING COMMUTERS. BEFORE DEMONSTRATORS MARCHED ON A PATH THAT TOOK THEM PAST OLD SACRAMENTO UP CAPITAL MALL AND STREET ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE CAPITOL BUILDING THE CROWD EVENTUALLY MERGING WITH ANOTHER GROUP. I’D LIKE TO HAVE SEEN A LARGER CROWD, BUT IT’S AMAZING. HOW MANY DID COME OUT AND ESPECIALLY HOW MANY YOUNG PEOPLE CAME OUT? BECAUSE YOU KNOW, THIS IS GOING TO BE A LONG FIGHT. MAY NOT BE HERE WHEN IT’S OVER. WE NEED THEM DON WOLFSON SHARING HER REASON FOR HEADING TO SACRAMENTO FROM EL DORADO COUNTY. I WANT TO GET IT FIXED AND IF THAT MEANS COMING TO THE STREETS HERE, I AM OTHERS USING THIS SPACE TO REMEMBER A TIME PRE-ROW. I REMEMBER IN THE 70S. I KNEW A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAD ABORTIONS AND IT WAS NEVER THE WRONG DECISION MANY ATTENDING THE DOWNTOWN GATHERINGS SIMPLY TO BE WITH OTHERS EXPRESSING FOR FRUSTRATION ABOUT THE HIGH COURT’S DEC. IN WHEN I SAW THE NEWS THING FLASH ACROSS MY PHONE, I FELT LIKE I WAS GONNA THROW UP. I DON’T KNOW THAT IT’LL MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE BEING HERE. BUT AT LEAST I CAN BE HERE AND SAY THIS IS NOT OKAY. AND I DO WANT TO NOTE THE GATHERING THAT HAPPENED HERE EARLIER THIS EVENING WAS COMPOSED OF MOSTLY IF NOT ALL OF PRO-ABORTION RIGHTS DEMONSTRATORS UNLIKE AT THE NATION’S CAPITAL EARLIER IN THE DAY. THERE WAS NOT A HERE OF BOTH PRO-ABORTION AND ANTI-ABORTION RIGHTS SUPPORTERS REPORTING LIVE AT THE CAPITOL TON
