PLACERVILLE, Calif. May 20, 2022 — PUSD Girls Complete Their Girls on the Run Season and Participate in 5K

Anticipation welling, excitement, cheers of encouragement from the crowd, and then the girls are off running with their full might. This was the setting this past Mother’s Day weekend for Pioneer Union School District’s Girls on the Run team. PUSD had eleven girls from 3rd through 5th grades participate in an 8-week training program, culminating May 7th in a 5K race with over 1,000 individuals in Sacramento.

Superintendent Annette Lane shares her thoughts about the Girls on the Run Program, “Girls on the Run programming focuses on strengthening girls’ social, emotional, physical and behavioral skills to successfully navigate life experiences.”

Girls on the Run is an after-school program designed to inspire girls of all abilities to recognize and embrace their inner strength. Lessons emphasize the important connection between physical and emotional health. PUSD Girls on the Run team had the opportunity to learn lessons in running techniques, nutrition, empathy, community leadership, and more.

The Girls on the Run team was led by coaches Jessica Trumble, Mary Simpson, and Tricia Ciampa. All the girls that participated did an amazing job finding their strength, confidence, and assurance. PUSD is committed to providing varied opportunities for all children to learn and grow. Through Girls on the Run, PUSD aids in developing girls to not only be athletic, but be women leaders of tomorrow.
