(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Oct 12, 2022 — On 10/8/2022 at 12:32 am, Placerville Police Officers responded to a reported wrong way driver on eastbound Highway 50. The report stated a vehicle was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed in the eastbound travel lanes near Smith Flat Road. Officers responded with emergency lights and sirens to intercept this reported dangerous driver. Officers arrived within minutes and discovered a two-vehicle collision on eastbound Highway 50 east of Bedford Ave.

An investigation was conducted, and it was determined that 36 year Anthony Estrada from Oakland, CA had been driving his 2004 Honda Civic the wrong way on Highway 50. An open alcoholic beverage was located inside the vehicle and officers determined that he had been operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Estrada was transported to the hospital by medics, due to injuries sustained in the collision, and he was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

A 15 year old passenger in the victim vehicle was transported to Marshall Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
