Food Bank of El Dorado County Helps close to 100 BBBS Families

(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) July 22, 2022 — Big Brothers Big Sisters Northern Sierra and the Food Bank of El Dorado County recently made a big impact. With the rising cost of gas, food and most of everything else on the market, it’s really hard for many families in communities throughout El Dorado County to make ends meet.

The dedicated staff at BBBS approached the food bank to help the families Big Brothers Big Sisters serves. After discussion, it was decided to invite everyone to a special shopping distribution at the food bank in Cameron Park.

Word got out quickly announcing a one time opportunity to shop at the facility. During the two-hour event, food bank staff and volunteers saw close to 100 families pushing carts up and down the aisles, collecting fresh produce, fresh fruits, breads, cheese, milk, chicken and miscellaneous items from the bins of canned goods. The shopping spree also included toiletry and household items that had been donated by the community.

The BBBS staff also prepared for the kids while the parents shopped by hosting a cupcake walk, a prize wheel and games to keep them entertained. Gift cards were provided to each child who attended the outreach by the food bank.

At the end of the day, shoppers were able to access hundreds of dollars worth of food for their families during this time of need in the community.

Special thanks go to Todd White, Brenda Frachiseur, Chelsea and Amber from Big Brothers Big Sisters and David Morla and Mike Sproull from the food bank. Together this team made a difference to many neighbors right here in El Dorado County.
