Traffic Stop Leads to Loaded Gun Arrest
Placerville Police Department
(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Aug 18, 2022 — On 08/17/2022 at 11:33 AM an officer observed a Dodge truck driving southbound on Cedar Ravine Rd., not displaying a front license plate. The officer initiated a traffic stop and a records check revealed that the registration was expired over 9 months.
The driver Zachary Sadler, 29 of Mount Aukum, also had a suspended driver’s license and in an attempt to conceal the expired registration, a 2022 tag was located on the rear license plate. A tow truck was called to tow the vehicle for the violation. A vehicle inventory was conducted and 10 glass pipes commonly used for narcotics ingestion and several expended .22 caliber shell casings were discovered. A further search revealed a Ruger .22 caliber handgun with 5 rounds in the cylinder. This firearm was within reach of Sadler. A records check on the firearm showed it was not registered to Sadler. Multiple rounds of various calibers of ammunition were found as well as 4 metal “ninja stars” with sharpened edges.
Sadler was charged with:
- 22850(A) PC – Misdemeanor. Carrying a loaded firearm on/in person/vehicle in public. 25400(a)(1) PC
- Misdemeanor. Carry concealed weapon in vehicle. 4463(A)(1) VC
- Misdemeanor. Forge/Alter Vehicle Registration. 25850(C) (6)
- Felony. Carry loaded handgun, not registered owner.
Sadler was booked into the El Dorado County Jail with a bail of $50,000
Interesting as the throwing stars are yet another felony…
That is compared to the misdemeanor charges of concealed loaded. But he did get the enhancement of unregistered gun loaded and/or concealed.
In the list above the punctuation bullets are not correctly placed. At first I wondered if there was a vehicle code section related to loaded guns. There is not.
