Two Fatal Collisions on County Roads

(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) July 2, 2022 — California Highway Patrol officers responded to two separate vehicle collisions that resulted in two fatalities the evening of June 18.

Placerville area CHP officers were dispatched around 4:56 p.m. after a man was fatally struck by an SUV on Mormon Emigrant Trail west of State Route 88 and east of Alder Creek Road, the collision report states.

Fernando Alanis-Jimenez, 35, was a passenger in a pickup that had stopped on the north shoulder of Mormon Emigrant Trail. Alanis-Jimenez had gotten out of the truck when an SUV crashed into him and the truck he was riding in. CHP investigators say Thomas Yearnshaw, 76, of Carson City, Nev., was driving the SUV, a 2006 Toyota 4-Runner, when his vehicle crossed over the double-yellow lines and crashed into Alanis-Jimenez and the truck parked on the north shoulder.

Alanis-Jimenez, whose place of residence was not known by CHP, was pronounced dead at the scene.
