EL DORADO COUNTY, CA The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) assisted in a multi-agency effort to rescue an injured hiker in El Dorado County last week.
WCSO RAVEN flight crew and Washoe County Sheriff’s – Hasty Team Helicopter Rescue Technicians responded early on the morning of Aug. 1 to help El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, El Dorado County Search & Rescue (SAR) and Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue (SAR) with the evacuation of a hiker who had suffered a back injury while hiking.
El Dorado County SAR and Tahoe Nordic SAR ground teams had found and made contact with the hiker, who was found injured and on a narrow, high, rock shelf next to a fairly tall cliff.
Authorities say RAVEN pilots and flight crew were able to maneuver the aircraft just close enough to the cliff face to be able to hoist two Hasty Helicopter Rescue Technicians down to the rock shelf, where they were able to assess the hiker’s injuries and, with assistance from ECSAR and TNSAR members, package the hiker and safely hoist him into the helicopter, where he was transported directly to Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe for further care.
