Georgetown, Calif. (November 22, 2023) – In the spirit of community and generosity, the VFW and the Food Bank of El Dorado County is set to host its monthly drive-through food distribution on December 1. The event, held from 1-4 p.m. in front of VFW Post 9241 on Main Street in Georgetown, aims to provide essential support to those in need. The doors are open to everyone, reflecting the inclusive nature of this initiative.
Excitement is in the air as the VFW and food bank report a heartening trend of increasing participation in the monthly food distributions. The November event saw an impressive turnout, with 80 families benefiting from the initiative. A total of 111 distributions were made, underscoring the impact and necessity of such community-driven efforts.
As the holiday season kicks into full gear, the VFW has more in store for the Georgetown community. On December 2, amid the town’s festivities, a special dinner event will unfold at the VFW starting at 3 p.m. The dinner, priced at $10 per person or $50 for a family of five, offers a warm gathering for families and friends. Notably, the dinner cost is capped at $50, ensuring affordability for larger families.
Adding to the festive spirit, from 3-6 p.m., the VFW and Food Bank El Dorado will distribute 170 frozen turkeys, with one turkey allocated per family. The distribution location is set in the parking lot of Iron Works Fitness at 6292 Main St., Georgetown, conveniently situated across from the VFW.
Crucially, the organizers emphasize that attending the dinner is not a prerequisite for receiving a turkey. This inclusive approach ensures that families can benefit from the seasonal generosity, whether or not they participate in the evening dinner event.
The convergence of these events highlights the VFW and Food Bank’s commitment to fostering a sense of community and support during the holiday season. It is a testament to the power of collaboration and collective goodwill, embodying the true spirit of giving back.
Georgetown residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for these community-driven initiatives, where the warmth of shared meals and the generosity of frozen turkeys combine to make the holiday season a little brighter for all.
