Dan Maciel, Placerville Police, March 16, 2023
At 0233 hours, Placerville Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle displaying a fictitious license plate. The driver, later identified as 34-year-old Akika Parker, refused to provide her drivers license and other required paperwork to officers. After attempting to gain her compliance had failed, she was ordered to exit the vehicle. Parker then fled the traffic stop in a reckless manner. Parker entered west bound Highway 50 at a high rate of speed at which time a vehicle pursuit was initiated.
Speeds exceeded 100 mph when Placerville Police Officers requested assistance from CHP and El Dorado County Sheriffs Office. Spike strips were deployed successfully however Parker continued to drive in an extremely reckless manner at which time both CHP and Placerville PD Officers terminated the pursuit out of concern for the drivers safety as well as the public. Folsom PD was notified and able to safely intercept the vehicle on west bound Highway 50, west of East Bidwell Street.
At the termination point of the stop, Folsom PD took over as lead agency for the safe resolution of the incident. For details concerning Parker being removed from the vehicle and taken into custody, refer to Folsom PD for further. After Parker was removed from the vehicle, Folsom PD recovered a loaded firearm.
Parker was then released to Placerville PD Officers who were still on scene. Parker was transported to Marshall Hospital by Placerville PD for medical clearance. Once Parker was medically cleared, she was booked into El Dorado County Jail for the following charges.
245(a)(1) PC, Assault with a deadly weapon,
2800.2(a) VC, Evade peace officer with wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property,
148(a)(1) PC, Resisting arrest,
