PLACERVILLE, Ca. (WENDY THOMAS, Supervisor District 3) — “Participate in a Caltrans Pilot Study, Earn up to $250, and Help Bring the Rural and Native American Voice to the Future of Transportation Funding.”
The Gas Tax has been a significant source of funding to maintain our road network. With cars getting more efficient and with electric vehicles on the rise, Gas Tax revenue is on a permanent decline. California has been testing a Road User Surcharge in place of a Gas tax, and they need drivers in rural regions to be part of a pilot program.
A Project Lead from Caltrans presented before the El Dorado County Transportation Commission this month. While we realize the need to find a reliable funding source to maintain our roads, I remain skeptical if a “pay per mile” fee is equitable in rural regions.
Click on the website link and flyer below to get more details and consider being a part of the study. I do think it is critical that rural drivers raise they voice and are a part of testing solutions.
