Pollock Pines, CA (December 14, 2023) — Responding to a long-standing challenge of blight and environmental concerns, the Pollock Pines community, in collaboration with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) and the Community Economic Development Association of Pollock Pines (CEDAPP), executed a comprehensive cleanup behind the CVS Pharmacy on Pony Express Trail on December 2.

The targeted area, previously marred by numerous homeless encampments and a significant amount of dumped garbage, witnessed an impressive joint effort from local businesses, law enforcement, and community volunteers. Partnerships with CVS, True Value of Pollock Pines, Mountain Enterprises, Kingpin Services, and over 15 dedicated community volunteers ensured the success of the cleanup initiative.

  • 16 vehicle tires collected
  • 26 hypodermic needles safely disposed of
  • Tree thinning performed to enhance visibility for law enforcement

Community Collaboration: The cleanup, a culmination of meticulous planning over several months, underscored the responsiveness of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office to the needs of the community. Sgt. Josh Sprague from the Homeless Outreach Team acknowledged historical challenges in the area and expressed a commitment to collaborative solutions. “If anyone has a desire to come help us, we are willing to work with the community,” Sgt. Sprague stated prior to the cleanup.

Addressing Broader Issues: The cleanup effort serves not only as a response to visible blight but as a symbol of community resilience and active engagement.

Local businesses, including True Value Hardware and Mountain High Enterprises, played pivotal roles in providing resources for the cleanup, emphasizing the importance of community-driven solutions to local challenges.

As Pollock Pines strives to improve the quality of life for its citizens, this cleanup stands as a testament to the impact achievable when communities, law enforcement, and businesses join forces to address shared concerns. The success of this initiative serves as an inspiring example of proactive community engagement in fostering positive change.
