(InEDC) Wendy Oaks, Camino — The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Amador-El Dorado Unit will be conducting a fuels reduction burn within the Sly Park Vegetation Management Project (VMP) in El Dorado County on Tuesday, September 26.
The burn, scheduled from approximately 9 a.m. — 3 p.m., will take place on the north side of Jenkinson Lake in Pollock Pines, dependent on any restrictions set forth by the El Dorado Air Quality Management District and favorable fire weather conditions. Smoke will be visible in the area.
The objective is to burn approximately 30 acres of timber understory within the VMP to create a healthy timber stand that is resistant to drought and beetle kill, continue the reduction of fuels in the fuel break, and increase fire protection to surrounding communities.
The El Dorado Irrigation District and the El Dorado County Fire Protection District will also be assisting with the project.
To track the progress being made on state fuels reduction goals, both in your community and throughout California, visit the CAL FIRE fuels reduction dashboard at https://www.fire.ca.aov/what-we-do/natural-resource-manaaement/fuels-reduction.
All CAL FIRE prescribed burns are evaluated hourly on the day of the burn, utilizing a Go/No Go checklist that is based on weather, resource availability, and incident activity. If burning conditions become unfavorable for a safe, controlled burn, operations will be immediately stopped.
