“Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians to Announce Voter Registration Center Designation on Tribal Lands.” – CA Secretary of State.
Designation Marks First in Nation.
The NVRA of 1993 includes provisions that offers opportunities to register to vote, in particular through the Department of Motor Vehicles and social service agencies. The designation of the Shingle Springs Health & Wellness Center is the first time a voter registration agency under the NVRA has been established on tribal lands. On March 7, 2021, President Joe Biden issued an executive order on promoting access to voting. This included allowing Indian Health Sent facilities as voter registration sites under the NVRA.
California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, PhD. and Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians Tribal Chairwoman Regina Cuellar will officiate the designation of the Shingle Springs Health & Wellness Center as a voter registration agency under the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) at a Special Session of the Tribal Council at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept 12, 2023.
Event includes Secretary Weber, Chair Regina Cuellar, Tribal Council Members, and Elections Officials.
