These permits grant you the incredible opportunity to venture into the designated areas of the enchanting Eldorado National Forest to find and cut your family’s Christmas tree. It’s a chance to kickstart the holiday season with an unforgettable outing. But there’s more to this tradition than meets the eye.

The Eldorado National Forest Christmas Tree Permits aren’t just about holiday cheer; they play a vital role in nurturing the forest’s health. Over the years, the forest has seen the buildup of hazardous fuel ladders due to decades of fire suppression. The abundance of small trees in the forest has led to concerns over safety. By allowing the public to responsibly cut Christmas trees, the forest takes a significant step toward creating a healthier environment in the long run.

The magic of the holiday season often revolves around the cherished moments spent with loved ones. Cutting your Christmas tree is one such timeless tradition that forms the backdrop of lifelong memories. To make your experience safe and enjoyable, we are here to provide you with all the information you need. Take a moment to review the essential details provided below and explore the Eldorado National Forest webpage for additional insights.

Planning your tree-cutting adventure is essential, and we’re here to help. Forest Service employees are at your service, offering up-to-date information about road and trail conditions and permitted cutting areas. This guidance is your key to a smooth and safe trip.

To participate in this heartwarming tradition, you must obtain a permit for the tree you plan to cut. These permits can be conveniently purchased online. Once you’ve secured your permit, it can be easily printed at home, and you should carry it with you as you set off on your tree-finding expedition.

Comprehensive maps are at your disposal. You can download a 4-page packet for Eldorado National Forest Christmas Tree Cutting Areas, designed for easy printing. Additionally, georeferenced maps for each ranger district are available for use with mapping apps like Avenza. We recommend selecting the map that corresponds to your planned visit area, making your adventure planning a breeze.
