December 14, 2023, Georgetown, California – The town of Georgetown, nestled in the heart of El Dorado County, has long been known for its cherished annual event, the Parade of Lights. For years, Georgetown and its neighboring communities have come together to orchestrate a special event along the iconic Main Street. The festivities kick off with the installation of a towering Christmas tree, generously donated by Blodgett Forest, positioned proudly in front of the local fire station. Strings of lights meticulously adorn the tree in anticipation of the ceremonious lighting.

As the clock approaches 4:30 p.m., the streets start buzzing with excitement as hundreds of locals and visitors claim their spots, eagerly anticipating the magical moment when the Christmas tree comes to life at precisely 5:30 p.m.

A Parade of Unity and Gratitude

The illumination of the Christmas tree is not the only highlight of the evening. An impressive parade, led by an Honor Guard from the local VFW Post 9241, takes center stage. Fire department personnel, law enforcement officers, and enthusiastic residents join in the procession. Sheriff Leikauf assumes the role of the “Grand Marshal,” guiding the parade that stretches as far as the eye can see. The lineup includes everything from ATV’s to decorated floats on trailers, creating a spectacle that captivates the entire community.

New Partner Shines: Food Bank of El Dorado County

This year, the Parade of Lights adds a heartwarming dimension with the inclusion of the Food Bank of El Dorado County. The organization was invited to provide support to families in need by distributing 140 turkeys during the event. David Morla from the Food Bank expressed his gratitude, saying, “This is a wonderful little town that is kind and cares for each other. I’ve been out here all night watching, and it warms my heart!”

Georgetown’s residents displayed their generosity by extending a warm welcome to the Food Bank, making this annual event not only a celebration of lights but also a beacon of community spirit and support for those facing challenges.

Gratitude Echoes Through Georgetown

The sentiment of gratitude echoed through the streets of Georgetown as families expressed their thanks for the assistance received during the Parade of Lights. Georgetown’s warm hospitality and the collaborative effort with the Food Bank of El Dorado County turned this event into a celebration of unity, kindness, and the true spirit of the holiday season.

As the lights twinkled and the parade unfolded, Georgetown once again proved that its annual tradition is not just about festive displays but also about fostering a sense of community and coming together to support one another. The Food Bank’s participation added a meaningful touch, turning this year’s Parade of Lights into a glowing example of compassion and solidarity.
