Today, we are here to explore the hidden gem known as the Apple Hill Growers, nestled in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Foothills. Nestled in the picturesque Sierra Nevada foothills lies a hidden gem, Apple Hill. With its rolling orchards and family-owned farms, this charming destination draws visitors from far and wide, especially during the annual Apple Hill Harvest. Near the Sierra foothill town of Placerville, just off the beaten path between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe are the Apple Hill Growers. We are an agriculture community with a rich history in farming and winemaking where a new generation of growers invites you to share the experience with your family and friends.

Underneath rows of vibrant apple trees, families and visitors come together to embrace the change of seasons in a truly unique way. Apple Hill offers a plethora of activities, such as orchard tours, pumpkin picking, hayrides, and, of course, apple picking. The tantalizing aroma of freshly baked apple pies, cider doughnuts, and apple cider fills the air, adding to the festive ambiance.

The Apple Hill Growers represent a tight-knit community of over 50 local, family farms dedicated to supporting agriculture in this area. Dating back to 1964, when it all began with 16 apple ranches, this community has now flourished and expanded to include an array of unique fruit and vegetable farms, bakeshops, wineries, a Bed & Breakfast Inn, flower gardens, and even Christmas tree farms. Representing over 50 local, family farms, the Apple Hill Growers are dedicated to supporting agriculture in our community.

With a rich history in farming and winemaking, the Apple Hill Growers invite you to embark on an unforgettable experience with your loved ones. Offering a wide variety of delicious, sweet apples, this community truly has something to offer for everyone. But that’s not all – their bountiful harvests are just the beginning of what they have in store for visitors. Let’s not forget about Christmas! During the holiday season, the Apple Hill Growers transform into a winter wonderland, with Christmas tree farms offering families the opportunity to select and cut their very own tree, creating timeless memories.

What Is Best Time To Go To Apple Hill?
Apple picking season starts on Labor Day Weekend and goes until the end of September. In October there’s pumpkin patches at some of the farms and a few also offer Christmas Tree cutting in December.

The best time to go to Apple Hill is mid-late September. Last year, I went on one of the very last days of the season and many of the apples were picked and/or too ripe for picking. This year, I went at the start of the season. We had fun, but it got to over 95 degrees that day!! Sweating while trying to get into the fall vibes wasn’t exactly my cup of tea.

Also, if you can, Friday will be less crowded than Saturday and Sunday. Most farms and orchards won’t be open Monday-Thursday. Apple hill hours are usually 10am-5pm as well, but always check the orchard’s individual hours first! Farms may be open year-round but they won’t have apples until the fall.

It’s not just apples.

Hiking: Some orchards, like Delfino, offer nature trails for visitors to walk and hike! Bring some comfy shoes and stretch those legs between wine tastings. If you’re going to Apple Hill this weekend, make sure to check the weather and prepare accordingly.

Pumpkin Patch: After apple season, many of the farms part of the growers association open up their pumpkin patches for visitors to come to grab pumpkins in October! Most will also have things like corn mazes and hayrides around this time of year.

Christmas Trees: And of course, after apples and pumpkin seasons are over, the Christmas tree farms are open! Come cut down a tree and soak in all the holiday fun and events in Apple Hill!

In an exciting development, the organizers of the Apple Hill Growers have announced these much-anticipated events, festivities, and activities that run every weekend throughout autumn, celebrate the bountiful apple harvest and the region’s rich agricultural heritage.
