EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. (October 31, 2023) – In a groundbreaking move to safeguard the well-being of children, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has embraced a new mantra and mission – Safeguarding children through healthy initiatives, education, law enforcement, and deterrence, or “SCHIELD.” This initiative seeks to forge stronger connections with the local community and empower children with essential life skills.

As part of this initiative, sheriff’s deputies have embarked on a vital journey to educate children on the values of good citizenship and the importance of making healthy choices. Deputies Aaron Campora and Keith Dougherty have been at the forefront of this campaign, making a positive impact on the young minds of El Dorado County.

Their mission began with visits to county elementary schools, with Buckeye and Pioneer elementary schools being among the first stops. Through SCHIELD, these dedicated officers are arming young minds with the knowledge they need to navigate life’s challenges successfully.

A cornerstone of this initiative is the deployment of cutting-edge drug abuse resistance education. Deputies Campora and Dougherty have undergone extensive training to equip themselves with the latest techniques and information to effectively combat drug abuse among young people. Their dedication is evident in their commitment to spending one day a week for ten weeks at each school, ensuring that they build trust and make a lasting impact on the students.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office SCHIELD initiative is not just about law enforcement; it’s a holistic approach aimed at protecting the most vulnerable members of our community – our children. By providing them with the tools and knowledge to make informed choices and live healthy lives, this initiative represents a significant step towards a safer, more resilient community.

In a time where the well-being of our children is of utmost concern, the SCHIELD initiative is a beacon of hope, fostering a stronger, healthier, and more informed generation in El Dorado County. The dedication and commitment of Deputies Campora and Dougherty exemplify the spirit of this endeavor, ensuring that the county’s children have the support and guidance they need to thrive.
