EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. (October 13, 2023) – In a commendable effort to preserve the natural beauty of Johnson Meadow in South Lake Tahoe, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) has conducted patrols this week, targeting illegal camps in the area. These camps, which have been posted for illegal occupation, have caused significant environmental damage, posing a threat to the delicate ecosystem.

The impact of these camps cannot be understated. The accumulation of household trash and human waste has been found to seep into the Upper Truckee River, a vital waterway that flows directly into the renowned “Jewel of the Sierra.” This environmental catastrophe has prompted a collaborative response from various agencies and volunteer groups.
