Placerville, Calif. – December 5, 2023
In a heartening display of community collaboration, Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil joined forces with the El Dorado County Fire Protection District to present a pivotal check of $1 million in state funds. The occasion, marked by a meet and greet at Placerville’s Station 25 on December 3, underscored the commitment to enhance public safety in the region.
The check, a symbol of financial support, is earmarked for the ambitious Placerville Joint Public Safety Facility project, a collaborative effort involving the El Dorado County Fire Protection District and the Placerville Police Department. Both agencies, currently operating from facilities that have exceeded their functional lifespan, are set to benefit from the infusion of state funds.
Over the past year, the City of Placerville and the El Dorado County Fire Protection District engaged in a joint effort to address the inadequacies of their existing facilities. The objective is to create a modernized, versatile space capable of efficiently delivering emergency services to the community. Envisaged functionalities of the Placerville Joint Public Safety Facility include a fire station, fire district administration, a police department, and an emergency operations center.
Fire Chief Tim Cordero expressed gratitude for Senator Alvarado-Gil’s proactive approach, stating, “The Senator and her staff listened to our needs and concerns, took the time to tour our station and see the challenges first hand, and went to work for our firefighters. This funding is a tremendous start towards providing our firefighters and police officers the facility they desperately need.”
Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil highlighted the significance of the investment, emphasizing its direct impact on the safety and well-being of the community’s first responders. “This is an investment in the men and women that serve our community in the fire district to make sure that they are safe, respected, and that they have dignity in the work that they give our community,” she affirmed.
During the ceremony, Fire Chief Tim Cordero reciprocated the gratitude by presenting Senator Alvarado-Gil with a flag that had flown over Station 25 on September 11 of this year. The gesture served as a token of appreciation for the senator’s instrumental role in propelling the Placerville Joint Public Safety Facility project forward.
As Placerville looks towards a future bolstered by a state-of-the-art public safety facility, the collaboration between Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil, the El Dorado County Fire Protection District, and the Placerville Police Department stands as a testament to the community’s dedication to ensuring the safety and efficiency of emergency services.
