(InEDC) Cris Alacon, SHINGLE SPRINGS – Dealer’s trial for the overdose-related death of Gillian Peterson-Murray, age 20, that occurred on May 26, 2022, will commence on October 17th in Department 1 of the El Dorado County Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. Apart from the aforementioned charges, Yusuf is also accused of distributing controlled substances to minors and selling drugs to a teenager in El Dorado Hills. This information was presented during the El Dorado county pretrial phase.
Gillian resided in El Dorado County her entire life. She graduated from Union Mine High School in 2020. Gillian worked in the dining room at Gold Country Retirement Center for three years.
Kamaal Yusuf, 22, a man from West Sacramento that is accused of selling fake pills, which contained the dangerous drug fentanyl, resulting in the death of a woman from Shingle Springs in 2022, has now been indicted on eight counts by a federal grand jury. Yusuf is a convicted felon, also faces charges of unlawfully possessing a Glock handgun and an unregistered short-barreled rifle.
If found guilty in the Federal charges, Yusuf could be sentenced to a minimum of 10 years in prison, with a maximum punishment of life imprisonment and a $10 million fine for his involvement in the fentanyl distribution conspiracy. The charges for distributing fentanyl carry a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
Furthermore, Yusuf could face 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of an unregistered short-barrel rifle due to his status as a felon.
