The King Fire, near Forebay in the canyon of South Fork American River, about 3 miles northeast of Pollock Pines grew from 100 acres at the start of the day to an estimated 3,000 acres by the end of the day September 14th. The fire grew quickly but the direction of the fire's travel was away from more densely populated areas. Both the fire and air fight settled down for the cooler nighttime hours, but officials expect resources fighting the fire to double today in an effort to begin to gain contain the King Fire.
There was a fire shelter deployment on the King Fire, which is burning 11 miles east of Placerville, California north of the community of Pollock Pines. In listening to the radio traffic, A Division Supervisor talking to Air Attack said a Task Force was overrun by fire, they were in a safety zone, but they were safe.
