By 2020, the number of people older than age 60 in El Dorado County will increase by nearly 150 percent of its current population. Robert and Owen Brooke's new business will help many seniors in El Dorado and Sacramento counties.
When entrepreneur Elizabeth Dodson moved from the East Coast to El Dorado Hills she wanted a tool to help manage her new home, which had different materials and maintenance tips than what she’d always known. “On the East Coast people have basements and no one has tile or stucco roofs like in California,” she said. “Things were breaking or I was always overdue maintaining things.”
Brothers Mike and Jeff Genovese bought Poor Red's. Mike Hountalas will operate the new Poor Red's. He also owns and runs The Purple Place Bar & Grill in El Dorado Hills. Also, Hountalas' family owns the famous Cliff House restaurant in San Francisco.
“The Holiday Faire is a fun place for the community to come together and support a good cause,” says Toni Koffman, a Barton Auxiliary volunteer. “We have been picking out the best items all year and are pleased to have more items for sale than last year.” All proceeds benefit Barton Memorial Hospital.
In May 2014, SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger and wetland expert Tom Biebighauser designed a 72' x 36' wetland on private land in Shingle Springs, CA. On October 14th, 2014 we held a SAVE THE FROGS! Wetland Construction Workshop at the site and restored the property's damaged wetland, creating habitat for frogs and other wildlife, and educational opportunities and outdoor enjoyment for local children.
The six library branches in El Dorado County were visited by more than 610,000 people between July 2013 and July 2014, and about 34,000 people attended one of its 1,749 programs, said Dina Gentry, with El Dorado County libraries.
