8. Office of the General Manager / Office of the General Counsel (Abercrombie/Cumpston)

Consideration of Amendments to General Manager’s and General Counsel’s Employment Contracts.

Option 1: Approve requested amendments to the General Manager’s and General Counsel’s employment contracts providing 5.0% and 3.8% merit increases, respectively, a 1% cost-of-living adjustment for 2013, and future cost-of-living adjustments; authorize the Board President to sign them.

Opinion: Points that EID’s Board should consider:

The above requested raises are $9,900 and $7,700 annually respectively but ignore that each man receives tens of thousands of dollars of non-publicly disclosed pension contributions over and above the 8% of compensation pension contribution EID has publicly disclosed. In total, both Abercrombie and Cumpston each receive some $100,000 of assorted pension, medical, paid time off and other benefits annually. (Each man effectively receives approximately one paid day off for each four days worked).

Ratepayers facing 102% of 2010-2015 rate hikes cannot afford to continue paying more than 30% of rates just for overly generous EID employee benefits and paid time off.

Ratepayers deserve that the pension issue and forthright public disclosure of its true full costs to ratepayers be prerequisites for EID’s Board to resolve before they consider requests by General Manager Abercrombie and General Counsel Cumpston for 6% and 4.8% of salary increases in 2013 plus auto-pilot COLA’s for 2014 -on.
