{"id":736,"date":"2023-06-09T09:01:44","date_gmt":"2023-06-09T17:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.inedc.com\/23\/?p=736"},"modified":"2023-06-16T09:03:00","modified_gmt":"2023-06-16T17:03:00","slug":"pge-undergrounding-powerlines-in-cool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.inedc.com\/23\/news\/pge-undergrounding-powerlines-in-cool\/","title":{"rendered":"PG&#038;E Undergrounding Powerlines in Cool"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>PG&amp; E<\/pre>\n<p>COOL, Calif.\u2014 As part of Pacific Gas and Electric Company\u2019s (PG&amp;E) commitment to reduce<br \/>\nwildfire risk and create a safer and more resilient grid, PG&amp;E is undergrounding overhead<br \/>\npowerlines in the commercial area Cool in El Dorado County.<\/p>\n<p>PG&amp;E crews will work to underground more than a mile of power lines through the end of 2023,<br \/>\nwith work starting June 5 in the vicinity the intersection of highways 49 and 193.<\/p>\n<p>To minimize traffic impacts, PG&amp;E will bore under the highways rather than trench across them.<br \/>\nBut at times there will be brief traffic impacts during construction.<\/p>\n<p>Undergrounding in local communities can reduce the risk of ignitions along undergrounded<br \/>\ncircuits by 99 percent; reduce annual spending on temporary repairs and other recurring costs<br \/>\nsuch as vegetation management; and lessen the need for wildfire safety-related outages.<br \/>\n\u201cTargeted undergrounding in high fire-risk areas will make our system safer and more resilient<br \/>\nto better serve customers and respond to the state\u2019s evolving climate challenges,\u201d said Joe<br \/>\nWilson, regional vice president of PG&amp;E\u2019s North Valley and Sierra Region. \u201cUndergrounding<br \/>\npowerlines benefits all of our customers, reducing maintenance and operating costs long-term<br \/>\nand preventing wildfires that affect us all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>PG&amp;E is notifying customers along project routes by letter or automated phone calls.<br \/>\nWork will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, except holidays, weather permitting.<br \/>\nOne-way traffic controls and will be in effect at times, and motorists may experience traffic<br \/>\ndelays and limited parking. Crews will deliberately work small sections at a time to minimize<br \/>\nimpacts. Work will happen in phases over many months, and crews may not be seen at times.<\/p>\n<p>PG&amp;E is working closely with El Dorado County and other agencies to ensure our work is wellcoordinated with other projects such as road work.<br \/>\nPG&amp;E has recently undergrounded power lines in other areas of Cool, such as along Brush N<br \/>\nRocks Lane, Ricci Lane, Cramer Road, Ahwahnee Way and Coon Creek. Currently, PG&amp;E<br \/>\nforecasts approximately 14 miles of undergrounding in El Dorado County for 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, PG&amp;E announced a multiyear plan to underground 10,000 miles of distribution<br \/>\npowerlines in high-fire risk areas. PG&amp;E is prioritizing undergrounding in areas where it can<br \/>\nhave the greatest effect on reducing wildfire risk.<\/p>\n<p>After the undergrounding is complete, PG&amp;E will remove the existing overhead distribution<br \/>\npowerlines.
