PLACERVILLE, Ca. (Supervisor Wendy Thomas) \u2014 On Monday, February 6th, we celebrated a soft opening of the new Navigation Center and Emergency Shelter…a project that has been years in the making!<\/strong><\/p>\n

El Dorado County has long struggled with our response to the growing challenge of homelessness, and I am proud that El Dorado County has now come to the table with our community partners (our non-profits, faith community, local hospitals and law enforcement) to coordinate services and resources in a manner that will serve our unhoused neighbors, our residents and our business community.<\/p>\n

This 60-bed facility, professionally managed by Volunteers of America, includes semi-private quarters in a separate wing for men and women as well as more congregate space. Food service will be provided by the Upper Room, and wrap around services, including help with housing and substance abuse, will be critical in helping folks navigate out of homelessness and into productive lives.<\/p>\n

This Navigation Center will not solve homelessness on its own, but it will be a significant tool to address this issue in our county and in our communities. Much gratitude to ALL those who have been instrumental in getting this Center to fruition, including our HHSA staff, current and prior HHSA Directors, our CAO, community partners, and my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors who had the political will to approve this facility with a unanimous vote.<\/strong><\/p>\n
