Somerset, CA – November 15, 2023 – Grizzly Flat Rd and Sweeny Rd<\/em> – At approximately 2 p.m. today, a Sheriff\u2019s Team of Active Retirees (S.T.A.R.) patrol vehicle fell victim to a sudden and unfortunate incident when a tree struck the vehicle in the Grizzly Flat Rd and Sweeny Rd area. The vehicle was occupied by three dedicated S.T.A.R. volunteers who were actively engaged in conducting security patrols at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n

Following the collision, emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene. The California Highway Patrol’s Placerville division confirmed all three individuals suffered major injuries and have since been taken to Marshall Hospital in Placerville. The injured S.T.A.R. volunteers were swiftly transported to a local hospital for necessary medical treatment. As the community awaits updates on the conditions of these volunteers, our thoughts are with them and their families during this challenging time.<\/p>\n

This incident underscores the risks that volunteers, even those in active retirement, can encounter while serving their communities.
