(October 25, 2023) &#8211; On October 20, 2023, the Honorable Michael Sweet sentenced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inedc.com\/23\/crime\/defendant-convicted-of-sexually-abusing-three-children-in-two-counties\/\">Timothy Bingaman<\/a> to 96 years in state prison. On August 10, 2023, a jury convicted Bingaman of 10 counts of committing forcible lewd acts on a child and six counts of committing lewd acts upon a child.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Bingaman met the then 9-year-old victim and her family in El Dorado County. The victim\u2019s mother allowed Bingaman to take her daughter along with his family to Sacramento County. While staying with friends in Sacramento, Bingaman sexually abused the victim on two separate occasions. Bingaman also repeatedly sexually abused the 11-year-old daughter of the friend he was staying with, and he continued to abuse her for more than three years. Bingaman manipulated and threatened that victim stating he would kill her father and grandmother if she told anyone. Bingaman became infatuated with her and wrote her a love note that became a pivotal piece of evidence at trial. Bingaman earned the trust of a third victim\u2019s family and took their 9-year-old daughter on vacations with other children, including the second victim. In 2017, he took the two victims to a hotel room in South Lake Tahoe. In the middle of the night, Bingaman sexually assaulted the third victim.<\/p>\n<p>The second victim found the strength to disclose the abuse in 2020, which started the investigation. The first victim kept the abuse secret until she was interviewed by detectives in 2020.
