Judy Carmichael: A Maestro of Stride and Swing Piano

Judy Carmichael’s name is synonymous with the mastery of stride and swing piano, and her impressive career has earned her the nickname “Stride” from none other than jazz legend Count Basie himself. This is a testament to her extraordinary command of the technically and physically demanding jazz piano style that has mesmerized audiences worldwide.

Carmichael’s musical prowess has been described by America’s Jazz Times as a fusion of Peggy Lee’s inviting breathiness and insouciance and the acute perspicacity found in the solo albums of Annie Ross. In other words, Judy Carmichael seamlessly combines the finest qualities of two of the most intuitive jazz singers in the history of the genre.

He has graced the recordings of over 300 albums, collaborating with a constellation of jazz luminaries. The list of artists he has worked with reads like a who’s who of jazz legends, including Cleo Laine, Al Hirt, Jimmy Rowles, Bob Brookmeyer, Luciana Souza, Lee Konitz, Larry Goldings, Mel Tormé, Alan Broadbent, Ray Brown, Bill Perkins, Toots Thielemanns, Rod Stewart, Seth MacFarlane, Linda Ronstadt, David Friesen, Bob Sheppard, Bob Mintzer, Peter Erskine, Warne Marsh, Charlie Haden, Natalie Cole, and many more.
