Smoke was spotted on wildfire cameras at 2 p.m. about two miles west of the Caldor Fire burn scars. It broke out at around 1:30 p.m. in the area of Rontree Lane and Fairplay Road in Somerset.
The fire was threatening several structures and evacuations have been ordered, according to CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit.
Cal Fire made an aggressive attack to keep a vegetation fire from spreading to nearby homes in El Dorado County on Sunday.
Andrew Scira, a cashier at a nearby convenience store, said planes, helicopters and over a dozen fire trucks had converged on the scene. Fire crews had evacuated several homes on Leap Frog Lane.
The blaze was about two miles south of Somerset not far from Pioneer Park, an area of ranches and wineries.
At 3:20 p.m. 10% containment has been reached. Evacuations were still in place for Leap Frog Lane in Somerset.
By 6 p.m.Firefighters said forward progress had been stopped and evacuations lifted along Leap Frog Lane.
