{"id":2652,"date":"2022-09-02T21:10:42","date_gmt":"2022-09-03T04:10:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.inedc.com\/22\/?p=2652"},"modified":"2022-09-04T00:36:28","modified_gmt":"2022-09-04T07:36:28","slug":"toxic-algae-discovered-in-lake-tahoe-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.inedc.com\/22\/09\/02\/toxic-algae-discovered-in-lake-tahoe-area\/","title":{"rendered":"Toxic Algae Discovered Near Lake Tahoe"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>Ariana Bindman, SFGATE<\/pre>\n<p>(PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA) Sept 2, 2022 \u2014 Harmful algal blooms have been detected in south of Lake Tahoe at Indian Creek Reservoir.<\/p>\n<p>Recent tests have found that the Indian Creek Reservoir in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/renotahoe\/\">South Lake Tahoe<\/a>\u00a0area is infested with harmful algal blooms, or HABs,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mywaterquality.ca.gov\/habs\/where\/freshwater_events.html\">government sites confirmed<\/a>. According to the advisory, humans and pets should stay out of the water and avoid eating shellfish from the reservoir. Owners should also ensure that their pets don\u2019t drink water or eat scum on the shore.<\/p>\n<p>Though they are particularly harmful to children, when humans ingest or come in contact with cyanobacteria or cyanotoxins, they can cause distinct flu-like symptoms\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mywaterquality.ca.gov\/habs\/resources\/human_health.html\">within 48 hours of exposure<\/a>. Government resources also say they can cause skin irritation, abnormal breathing and gastrointestinal symptoms within just\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mywaterquality.ca.gov\/habs\/hab-related_illness.html\">minutes to days<\/a>. In animals, they can cause seizure and death.<\/p>\n<div id=\"paywall\" class=\"content-wrapper\">\n<p>Even if visitors don\u2019t swim in water infested with a dangerous algae bloom, it\u2019s still possible to get sick by inhaling mist or spray.
