{"id":168,"date":"2022-04-28T15:19:06","date_gmt":"2022-04-28T15:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.inedc.com\/22\/?p=168"},"modified":"2022-04-30T05:32:55","modified_gmt":"2022-04-30T05:32:55","slug":"oak-ridge-high-school-baseball-we-play-for-bryce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.inedc.com\/22\/04\/28\/oak-ridge-high-school-baseball-we-play-for-bryce\/","title":{"rendered":"Oak Ridge High School Baseball &#8211; &#8216;We play for Bryce&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>(Caroline Morales, Matt George, ABC10)<\/pre>\n<p>EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. \u2014 <strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">After being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer the summer going into his senior year,\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/orhs.eduhsd.k12.ca.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oak Ridge High School<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0baseball player Bryce Bazor has felt an immense amount of support from his community.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">When Bryce began developing slight pains during his summer ball season in July, his parents decided to take him to the doctor.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cAfter checking it out and sending in biopsies, they found it was\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/cancer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">chondroblastic osteosarcoma<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-US\">, which is a very rare form of cancer,\u201d Bryce\u2019s father, Jim Bazor, told ABC10.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">According to the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">American Cancer Society<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-US\">, about 1,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with chondroblastic osteosarcoma each year.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Bryce was forced to leave baseball, which has been a part of his life since he was a child, behind this season after being diagnosed with cancer. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Despite what he is currently going through, Bryce\u2019s friends, family and teammates describe him as a resilient individual.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u201cOne of Bryce\u2019s defining characteristics is that his spirits are always high. I am honestly surprised at how well he is handling everything he is going through,\u201d Jack Bolton, one of Bryce\u2019s best friends and teammates said. \u201cThat\u2019s just who he is as a person.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Wes Clanton, Oak Ridge\u2019s Junior Varsity baseball coach, said Bryce does not have an ounce of quit in his body.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u201cI look at what\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0doing right now, and\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0fighting, just like he did on the baseball field,\u201d Clanton said.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Bryce said having a positive outlook and keeping a smile on his face every day despite what he is going through has helped him through his fight against cancer.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Although Bryce cannot play during his senior season, his coaches and teammates are making sure he\u2019s still on the field in some capacity for every game.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u201cWe play for one reason right now; we play for Bryce,\u201d Clanton said. \u201cEvery time we touch that field, it&#8217;s for him.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On Saturday, the Del Oro High School baseball team wore Bryce\u2019s number and \u201cfamily\u201d across their jerseys during their game against Oak Ridge. At Tuesday\u2019s rivalry game against Folsom High School, both teams lined up together as they presented Bryce with a jersey, plaque and letterman patch.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bryce said it was nice to see not only his friends supporting him, but his friends from Folsom supporting him as well.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt was awesome to have everyone there supporting me,\u201d Bryce said. \u201cIt was also great to be on the field again. I miss it.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bryce&#8217;s close friends and teammates said seeing the whole baseball community come together as one put &#8220;a little bit of fight&#8221; in all of their hearts and gave them something to play for.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Over the course of his battle with cancer, Bryce has decided that he wants to set up a foundation in his name to raise money for cancer research.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe want to do everything we can moving forward to help Bryce and other children just like him be able to overcome this rare form of cancer,&#8221; Bryce&#8217;s father said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Clanton said him and Bryce&#8217;s father have decided to set up a Wiffle ball tournament for Sunday, May 1 to raise money for cancer research.
