Featured poets are Janet Rodriguez and Zheyla Henriksen. Bring your favorite poem, or one you’ve written yourself to read at the open mic, which follows the featured poets’ presentation.<\/p>\n

Janet Rodrigu<\/strong>ez\u00a0is an author, teacher, and editor living in Northern California. She is the author of the family memoir,\u00a0Making an American Family: A Recipe in Five Generations\u00a0(forthcoming from Prickly Pear Press in June of 2022). In the United States, her work has appeared in\u00a0Hobart, Pangyrus, Eclectica, The Rumpus, Cloud Women\u2019s Quarterly, American River Review,\u00a0and\u00a0Calaveras Station.\u00a0She is the winner of the Bazanella Literary Award for Short Fiction and the Literary Insight for Work in Translation Award, both from CSU Sacramento in 2017. Her short stories, essays, and poetry usually deal with themes involving morality in faith communities and the mixed-race experience in a culturally binary world. Zheyla Henriksen<\/strong>\u00a0is an\u00a0Ecuadorian, poet, researcher and artist, who currently resides in the United States.\u00a0In 1967, in Ecuador, she received third place for the poem\u00a0Fantas\u00edas\u00a0in Los Primeros Juegos Florales Estudiantiles.\u00a0She participated in the first Encounter of the Feminist Poets in Ecuador.\u00a0Zheyla has participated in different poetry recitals in Ecuador, the United States, Spain, Canada, Argentina, Panama, and Ecuador. In 2008, her book of poems,\u00a0Poemas dispersos\u00a0was published which included the collection of poetry called\u00a0Poemas del Cuerpo\u00a0which was one of the seven finalists in the 2004 Concurso Internacional de Poes\u00eda Er\u00f3tica in Gij\u00f3n, Spain.<\/p>\n
