On Saturday, hundreds of residents in El Dorado Hills received a reverse 9-1-1 call to evacuate their homes for a disaster drill.They were told their homes were being threatened by a fast moving wildfire.
El Dorado Hills fire chief Dave Roberts said the training exercise will teach residents to evacuate quickly and orderly in a real emergency.
More than 300 fire, police, and emergency personnel are taking part in the drill.
Dozens of pieces of emergency equipment are staged at the Lakehills Estates.
The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at Oak Ridge High School and families are expected to start arriving at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
